Youthworks - Town Of Amherst Youth & Recreation Department

This year-round initiative serves as a bridge between Amherst residents who require help with additional tasks in or around their homes and local youth aged 12-20 eager to assist. Teens interested in participating complete an application outlining the types of work they are willing to undertake. Residents can then call to request assistance, specifying the nature of the job they need done. A teen participant is subsequently contacted regarding the potential job, provided with details, and given the resident's contact information. The teen then reaches out to the resident to arrange the job's timing and payment. Certain requests, particularly those involving ladder climbing, roof work, heavy lifting, or driving, are not accepted due to safety concerns. Available job opportunities include raking, shoveling, mowing, weeding, gardening, tutoring, putting away groceries, running errands, pet care, child care, assisting the elderly or disabled, computer tutoring, cleaning basements or garages, helping with parties, and performing light housework.

Intake Procedure: Teens interested in working should discuss the program with their parents and, if they wish to proceed, complete an application to send to Lorraine Lee at the Youth and Rec office located at 1615 Amherst Manor Drive, Williamsville, NY 14221. Residents in need of assistance should contact Robin at 716-631-7217 during office hours.

Fees: Participation is free of charge. The payment for the work performed by youth should be agreed upon by both parties, with a minimum wage applicable for the first hour and for each additional hour. Youth workers should be compensated at the end of each workday.
