Youthworks - Town Of Amherst Youth & Recreation Department

This service operates year-round, acting as a bridge between Amherst residents who require help with additional tasks around their homes and local youth aged 12-20 eager to assist. Teens interested in participating must complete an application specifying the types of work they are willing to undertake. Residents can request assistance by calling in and explaining the tasks they need help with. Once a request is made, a teen is contacted with job details and the resident's contact information. The teen then reaches out to the resident to arrange the specifics of the job, including timing and payment. Safety regulations prevent requests for jobs that involve climbing, heavy lifting, or driving. Available job opportunities include raking, shoveling, mowing, gardening, tutoring, running errands, pet care, child care, assisting the elderly or disabled, computer tutoring, cleaning basements or garages, helping with parties, and light housekeeping.

Intake Procedure: Teens interested in working should talk with their parents about the YouthWorks program. If they wish to proceed, they need to fill out an application and send it to Lorraine Lee Youth and Rec office at 1615 Amherst Manor Drive, Williamsville, NY 14221. Fees: There are no fees to participate. Payment for the work done by youth should be negotiated between the two parties, but it must be at least the minimum wage for the first hour or less, and for any additional hours. Youth workers should be compensated at the end of each workday.
