This program offers short-term aid to individuals and families in need as they work towards becoming self-sufficient. It can help with either a security deposit or the first month's rent, but not both. Additionally, it is tasked with funding and coordinating burials for Montgomery County residents who pass away without financial resources or family to handle the arrangements. Family Assistance (FA) provides financial aid to families with children, with cash benefits capped at five years per recipient. After this period, continued assistance may be available if an adult in the household is disabled and unable to work, or they may need to seek help through the Safety Net category. Safety Net Assistance (SNA) offers financial support for basic living needs to single adults and couples without children, or families who have exhausted their five-year FA limit. Cash benefits under SNA are restricted to two years in a recipient's lifetime, after which a non-cash voucher system takes effect. Emergency Temporary Assistance through Emergency Assistance for Families (EAF) or Emergency Safety Net Assistance (ESNA) is available for urgent situations such as evictions, relocation costs, utility disconnections, and diversion payments to help individuals avoid long-term assistance needs. Notably, individuals do not have to be enrolled in public assistance programs to qualify for Emergency Temporary Assistance.
