- This service is available to residents of Nassau County and requires a referral from the Nassau County Department of Social Services (DSS). Access to Emergency Housing for Homeless Persons necessitates a referral from a DSS office or hotline operator. For Nassau, contact (516)227-8519 or the emergency number at (516)573-8626. For Suffolk County, call (631)854-9517 or the evening/emergency number at (631)854-9100. Those ineligible for DSS services can reach out to the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless at (631)464-4314.
