This initiative offers a range of resources designed to help children achieve a healthy beginning in life. Programs include: Early Intervention, which is a voluntary developmental assessment and service program provided by New York State and managed locally by the Nassau County Department of Health Office for Children with Special Needs; Preschool Special Education, catering to children aged 3 to 5 who have developmental delays or educational requirements; WIC, which stands for the Special Supplemental Foods Program for Women, Infants, and Children, offering nutritious food and nutrition education to participants; Lead Poisoning & Prevention, which provides information to help avert lead poisoning in children; Cribs for Kids, a safe-sleep education initiative for parents and caregivers that includes providing a safety-approved crib for families in need; Healthy Moms & Babies, a resource center dedicated to the health of childbearing women, infants, their families, and communities; Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN), which offers referrals and information about community resources for children with special health care needs and their families; the Child Fatality Review Team, which analyzes child deaths to identify causes and recommend strategies to prevent future fatalities; and the 4th Trimester program, which supports mothers in managing postpartum depression, breastfeeding, and more.
