As a Fiscal Intermediary, this initiative supports independence for individuals with developmental disabilities by enabling them to develop and oversee their own budgets, hire their own support personnel, and participate in activities that improve their community living and working skills. It offers individuals the autonomy to make choices regarding their care, including: Employer authority to hire, manage, and terminate staff; Budget authority that grants flexibility in purchasing necessary supports and services for independent living; Opportunities for daily activities like paid or volunteer work, continuing education, and leisure; Support from family, friends, coworkers, and staff; Decisions about living arrangements and daily routines such as meal times and sleep schedules.
