About this resource
This program provides financial support to assist low-income households with their energy expenses. Regular Benefits can range from $20 to $500, determined by factors such as income, the age of household members, energy costs, and housing circumstances. Generally, this benefit is offered as a one-time assistance during the program year. Emergency Benefits are accessible for those eligible for HEAP facing an energy crisis, like a power shutoff or insufficient heating fuel. Households must pass a resource test to qualify. The benefit amounts can vary. Additionally, Heating Equipment Repair or Replacement Benefits are available to fix or replace essential heating systems. Cooling Assistance Benefits are offered for those who have received a regular benefit exceeding $21 and have a medical condition worsened by heat, allowing them to purchase and install cooling devices. Clean and Tune Benefits help maintain the primary heating system and may cover chimney cleaning or minor repairs, with costs capped at $400. Seniors aged 60 and above can reach out to HEAP via the Office for the Aging at 518-884-4111 for a mail-in application.
Intake Procedure: Applications for regular HEAP benefits can be submitted online at www.mybenefits.ny.gov or in person, with telephone interviews available.
Fees: None.
