Ammerman Campus

This initiative is a collaborative effort between Suffolk County Community College and Longwood Central School District, along with governmental bodies and businesses, designed to create a distinctive and supportive setting for students at risk of leaving school. Funded by a grant from the New York State Education Department, the Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) targets students in grades 7-12 who may not be achieving their academic potential by offering services that enhance their likelihood of graduating high school and progressing to higher education or employment. Juniors and seniors in the LPP may participate in a two-semester program that awards college credit upon successful completion. The first semester includes a non-credit course that emphasizes reading, writing, study skills, critical thinking, and computer proficiency, while the second semester covers topics relevant to college students and improves research abilities. Additional courses that offer college credit are available for those who complete this program. Services provided by the LPP include: college preparatory classes; a seminar at Suffolk County Community College (which earns 1.0 college credits); an LPP club and newsletter; team-building activities; cultural enrichment and field trips; counseling; tutoring and college placement test preparation; ACT/SAT prep classes; Regents review sessions; leadership workshops for students and parents; and workforce preparation, which features visits to and internships with local businesses and colleges.
