The center offers child care services for children from 8 weeks to 5 years old and is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. Operating Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., it caters to University, Health Sciences, and Medical Center faculty, staff, students, as well as families from the community. Families associated with the University benefit from a tuition sliding scale based on their gross income. The center employs full-time professionals and part-time support staff, including University students enrolled in the Psychology 488 Internship, who work closely with teachers under supervision and receive weekly training. To maintain a low child-to-adult ratio, students who excel in their courses are invited to assist as part-time staff. The child-teacher ratio is 7 to 1 for the 3-5 year old program and 4 to 1 for the Infant-Toddler program. Our goal is to create a nurturing, supportive, and creative environment where children can interact in family-grouped settings. Hands-on activities are emphasized to promote self-reliance as children learn through experience. Parents provide their children's lunches, while we offer healthy snacks that children help prepare. Our staff promotes a positive, non-sexist, non-violent, and multi-cultural atmosphere, encouraging children to express their feelings and respect others. Each child and parent is treated as an individual, and we serve as an emotional support and educational resource for everyday parenting challenges.
