In March 2024, Carshare has reopened following a 9-month break, providing self-service, round-the-clock access to more than 29 vehicles, including a pick-up truck and two 7-passenger minivans, situated in downtown, Fall Creek, South Hill, Collegetown, East Hill, Cornell, and West Hill at Chestnut and Elm. This service is ideal for short-term vehicle needs such as errands and appointments. Reservations can be made online or via phone. The hourly and mileage fees cover gas, insurance, roadside assistance, and regular maintenance. To become a member, drivers must possess a valid driver's license and complete the application process. Membership plans include two personal options tailored for varying vehicle usage frequencies. The Easy Access membership is designed for low-income individuals (at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level), who may qualify if they receive EBT/food stamps, Medicaid, or Free and Reduced school lunch. This plan features a waived application fee, a reduced monthly membership fee, and a $15 monthly driving credit. There are also plans available for organizations and businesses. Staff at Cornell University participating in a commuter program can receive a discount, as can Cornell students. CCT's mission-driven services include Ithaca Carshare (a 24/7 Carsharing program), Bike Walk Tompkins (focused on cycling and pedestrian education and advocacy), and Ithaca Bikeshare (a 24/7 bikeshare network), all emphasizing social equity and environmental sustainability amidst evolving transportation options and mobility trends. CCT collaborates with local transportation providers, educators, planners, decision-makers, advocates, and users to enhance transportation access in the community while mitigating negative environmental and economic impacts, striving for a collaborative transportation sector that identifies and implements solutions for the entire community.
