Tompkins Community Action (Tca)

The Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP), which was formerly referred to as Section 8, offers rental assistance to individuals and families who meet income eligibility criteria. Participants typically contribute between 30-40% of their adjusted monthly income for housing expenses, with the remainder covered directly to the landlord. Before rental assistance is provided, housing units undergo inspections to ensure they meet health and safety standards, with inspections occurring at least annually thereafter. Applicants are prioritized based on the date and time of their application submission, and the current estimated wait time for assistance is between 24 to 36 months. At the time of application, proof of residency is required.

Intake Procedure: Applications must include an up-to-date mailing address, and any changes must be reported.
