About this resource

This initiative provides monetary assistance to families with children who are financially struggling, aiming to help them achieve self-sufficiency. The cash aid is designed to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, housing, and utility bills. Recipients of TANF may have the opportunity to engage in the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which supports them in earning a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and essential life skills.

Intake Procedure: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting the application: - The local DHS office will reach out to schedule an in-person or phone interview - Applicants can also initiate contact with the local DHS office to arrange the interview - DHS staff are unable to leave messages on voicemails that do not include the applicant's name in the greeting.

Fees: There are no fees associated with this program.

Who can use this

  • To qualify, applicants must be low-income families with children under 18 or pregnant women in their ninth month, reside in Oregon, have minimal income and resources, and be US citizens or qualified non-citizens.

Documents you may need

  • Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
