About this resource

This initiative provides financial aid to low-income families with children, assisting them in their journey towards self-sufficiency. The cash assistance is designed to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Participants in the TANF program may also have the opportunity to engage in the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which supports them in obtaining a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and essential life skills.

Intake Procedure: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting the application: -The local DHS office will reach out to the applicant to schedule an in-person or phone interview -Applicants have the option to contact the local DHS office to arrange the interview -DHS staff are unable to leave messages on voicemails that do not include the applicant's name in the greeting.

Fees: There are no associated fees.

Who can use this

  • - Families with children under 18 or pregnant women in their 9th month must be the head of the household - Must reside in Oregon - Must have very low or no income and limited resources (such as property, vehicles, or bank accounts). The applicant should be a US Citizen or a qualified non-citizen. Non-citizen parents can apply for benefits on behalf of their US Citizen children.

Documents you may need

  • Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
