About this resource
This initiative provides financial aid to families with children who are experiencing low income, helping them work towards becoming self-sufficient. The cash assistance aims to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Participants in the TANF program may have the opportunity to join the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which supports them in earning a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and essential life skills.
Application Process: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting the application: - The local DHS office will contact the applicant to arrange an in-person or phone interview - Applicants can reach out to the local DHS office to schedule their interview - DHS representatives are unable to leave messages on voicemails that do not include the applicant's name in the greeting.
Cost: There are no fees associated with this program.
Who can use this
- - Families with children under 18 or pregnant women in their 9th month of pregnancy, where the parent is the head of the household and under 18 - Must reside in Oregon - Must have very low or no income and limited resources (like property, vehicles, or bank accounts) - Applicants must be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens, with non-citizen parents able to apply for benefits on behalf of their U.S. citizen children.
Documents you may need
- Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
