About this resource

This initiative provides financial aid to low-income families with children, assisting them in achieving self-sufficiency. The cash support aims to cover fundamental necessities such as food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Participants in the TANF program may have the opportunity to engage in the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which supports individuals in obtaining a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and essential life skills.

Application Process: Applications can be submitted online, by phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting an application: - The local DHS office will contact the applicant to arrange an interview, either in-person or via phone - Applicants can also reach out to the local DHS office to schedule their interview - DHS staff are unable to leave messages on voicemails that do not have the applicant's name in the greeting.

Cost: There are no fees associated with this program.

Who can use this

  • - Families with low income that have children under 18 or pregnant women in their 9th month of pregnancy, with the parent being the head of the household and under 18 - Must reside in Oregon - Must have minimal or no income and limited resources (like property, vehicles, or bank accounts). Applicants need to be US Citizens or qualified non-citizens. Non-citizen parents can apply for benefits on behalf of their US Citizen children.

Documents you may need

  • Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
