Deschutes County Sheriff'S Office
Community Resource
About this resource
This initiative features a one-on-one volunteer mentorship program designed to alleviate trauma for children whose parents are incarcerated. Mentors are expected to dedicate several hours each week for a minimum of one year to engage with a child. Activities may encompass attending community events, engaging in sports or recreational pursuits (like biking, visiting parks, art projects, swimming, bowling, hiking), or enjoying outings to the library or movies. Additionally, some mentors offer academic assistance, aid in developing reading skills, and link children and families to further community resources, including scholarship options and youth enrichment initiatives.
Intake Procedure: Interested individuals can walk in, call, or email for further details. Referrals are also welcomed from service providers such as the Family Access Network (FAN) or mental health professionals.
Fees: There are no associated costs.
