About this resource
This program provides financial support to families with children who are facing low income, assisting them in their journey towards self-sufficiency. The cash aid is designed to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, housing, and utilities. Participants in the TANF program may also have the opportunity to engage in the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) initiative, which aids in obtaining a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and essential life skills.
Intake Procedure: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting an application: - The local DHS office will reach out to schedule an in-person or phone interview - Applicants can also directly contact the local DHS office to arrange the interview - DHS representatives are unable to leave messages on voicemails that do not include the applicant's name in the greeting.
Travel/Location: Accessible via the UCAN Bus Line.
Fees: There are no associated fees.
Who can use this
- - Families with children under 18 or pregnant women in their 9th month must be the head of the household - Must reside in Oregon - Must have very low or no income and minimal resources (like property, vehicles, or bank accounts) - Applicants must be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens, with parents lacking U.S. citizenship able to apply for benefits on behalf of their U.S. citizen children.
Documents you may need
- Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
