About this resource

This initiative provides financial aid to families with children who are facing low income, assisting them in their journey towards self-sufficiency. The cash assistance is designed to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Participants in the TANF program may also have the opportunity to engage in the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which supports individuals in obtaining their high school diploma or GED, alongside job readiness and essential life skills.

Intake Procedure: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting an application: - The local DHS office will reach out to the applicant to arrange an in-person or phone interview - Applicants can also initiate contact with the local DHS office to schedule the interview - DHS staff cannot leave messages on voicemails that do not include the applicant's name in the greeting.

Fees: There are no associated fees.

Who can use this

  • To qualify, applicants must be low-income families with children under 18 or pregnant women in their 9th month, reside in Oregon, have minimal income and resources, and be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens.

Documents you may need

  • Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
