About this resource

This initiative provides financial aid to low-income families with children, assisting them in achieving self-sufficiency. The cash assistance is designed to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Participants in the TANF program may also have the opportunity to engage in the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which aids in obtaining a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and life skills training.

Intake Procedure: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (Processing Centers do NOT provide in-person services). After submitting an application: - The local DHS office will contact the applicant to arrange an in-person or phone interview appointment. - Applicants may also reach out to the local DHS office to schedule the interview. - DHS staff cannot leave messages on voicemails that do not include the applicant's name in the greeting.

Fees: There are no fees associated with this program.

Who can use this

  • - Families with low income that have children under 18 or pregnant women in their ninth month of pregnancy, where the head of the household is under 18 - Must reside in Oregon - Must have minimal or no income and limited resources (like property, vehicles, or bank accounts). Applicants must be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens. Parents without U.S. citizenship can apply for benefits on behalf of their U.S. citizen children.

Documents you may need

  • Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
