About this resource

Migrant education is a federal initiative designed to provide funding to state and local educational agencies to help eliminate obstacles that migrant students encounter regarding school enrollment, attendance, and academic success. Services offered may include tutoring, personalized assistance during class or after school, summer educational programs, complimentary 24-hour accident injury insurance, support for parental involvement, referrals to community services, and guidance for older youth transitioning to college and careers.

Who can use this

  • To qualify, individuals must meet the following criteria: -Aged 21 or younger -Eligible for free public education through grade 12 and have not yet graduated or received a GED -Relocated within the last 36 months due to economic necessity, moving between residences and school districts, or to join a parent, guardian, or spouse who is a migratory agricultural worker or fisher -Must have started new qualifying temporary or seasonal work in agriculture or fishing within 60 days of relocation -Employment must be less than 12 months in agricultural or fishing sectors.
