Va Northwest Health Network
Community Resource
About this resource
The Veterans Justice Outreach (VJO) initiative seeks to prevent the unnecessary criminalization of mental health conditions and prolonged imprisonment among veterans by ensuring that those eligible and involved with the criminal justice system receive access to mental health and substance abuse services provided by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). The VJO is equipped to evaluate needs, connect qualified veterans to suitable services, and act as a liaison between the VA and legal entities, including courts and attorneys, as well as community organizations. However, the VJO does not offer legal counsel, conduct forensic psychological assessments for the courts, take custody of veterans, or ensure acceptance into VA programs.
