About this resource
This program provides financial aid to low-income families with children, assisting them in their journey towards self-sufficiency. The cash assistance is designed to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Recipients of TANF may also have the opportunity to join the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which helps individuals earn a high school diploma or GED, in addition to providing job readiness and life skills training.
Intake Procedure: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do NOT provide in-person services). After submitting the application: - The local DHS office will reach out to schedule an in-person or phone interview - Applicants can also contact the local DHS office to arrange the interview - DHS staff are unable to leave messages on voicemails that do not state the applicant's name in the greeting.
Fees: There are no fees associated with this program.
Who can use this
- - Families with children under 18 or pregnant women in their 9th month who are the head of the household - Must reside in Oregon - Must have very low or no income and limited resources (like property, vehicles, or bank accounts). Applicants must be US Citizens or qualified non-citizens. Non-citizen parents can apply for benefits on behalf of their US Citizen children.
Documents you may need
- Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
