About this resource

This program provides financial aid to families with children who are experiencing low income, assisting them in their journey towards self-sufficiency. The cash assistance is designed to cover essential needs like food, clothing, housing, and utilities. Recipients of TANF may also have the chance to engage in the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which aids in obtaining a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and life skills training.

Intake Process: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting the application: - The local DHS office will reach out to the applicant to arrange an in-person or phone interview - Applicants can proactively contact the local DHS office to schedule their interview - DHS staff are unable to leave messages on voicemails that do not include the applicant's name in the greeting.

Fees: There are no fees associated with the application.

Who can use this

  • To qualify, applicants must be low-income families with children under 18 or pregnant women in their ninth month, reside in Oregon, have minimal income and resources, and be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens.

Documents you may need

  • Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
