About this resource
This initiative provides complimentary weatherization services to homeowners and renters who meet income eligibility criteria, with a focus on older adults and individuals with disabilities. The costs of the work are covered by federal grants and contributions from participating utilities. Agency staff conduct energy audits and inspections, while licensed and bonded private contractors carry out the installation. Weatherization efforts aimed at decreasing energy use may involve: - Insulating attics, walls, and floors - Enhancing ventilation in attics and underfloors - Sealing air leaks throughout the house and installing continuous ventilation - Weatherstripping doors - Installing thermal replacement windows - Fitting carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms - Sealing and insulating HVAC ducts - Conducting diagnostic tests to find air leaks - Servicing furnaces and installing digital thermostats - Performing minor health and safety repairs related to weatherization (excluding emergency home repairs) - Installing energy-efficient refrigerators and compact fluorescent bulbs.
