About this resource

This initiative provides financial aid to families with children who are facing economic hardships, assisting them on their path to self-sufficiency. The cash aid is designed to cover essential needs like food, clothing, housing, and utilities. Recipients of TANF may also have the opportunity to engage in the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which aids in obtaining a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and life skills training.

Intake Process: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting the application: - The local DHS office will reach out to schedule either an in-person or phone interview - Applicants can also contact the local DHS office to arrange the interview - DHS staff cannot leave messages on voicemails that do not clearly state the applicant's name in the greeting.

Costs: There are no fees associated with this program.

Who can use this

  • To qualify, applicants must be low-income families with children under 18, pregnant women in their ninth month, or parents under 18 who are heads of their households, reside in Oregon, and have minimal income and resources.

Documents you may need

  • Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
