About this resource
This initiative provides financial support to low-income families with children as they work towards becoming self-sufficient. The cash assistance is designed to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, housing, and utility bills. Participants in the TANF program may also have the opportunity to join the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which aids in obtaining a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and life skills training.
Intake Procedure: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After the application is submitted: - The local DHS office will reach out to schedule an in-person or phone interview - Applicants can also call the local DHS office to arrange their interview - DHS staff cannot leave messages on voicemails that do not have the applicant's name in the greeting.

Who can use this
- - Families with low income that have children under 18 or pregnant women in their 9th month of pregnancy, or parents under 18 who are heads of their households - Must reside in Oregon - Must have minimal income and few resources (like property, vehicles, or bank accounts). The applicant needs to be a US Citizen or a qualified non-citizen. Non-citizen parents can apply for benefits on behalf of their US Citizen children.
Documents you may need
- Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
