About this resource

The initiative supports SNAP beneficiaries in acquiring skills, training, work experience, and job opportunities to enhance their chances of securing living-wage employment. It may also provide financial assistance for training expenses, textbooks, transportation, housing, utility bills, and work attire.

Intake Procedure: For the STEP program, contact your local DHS office to request a referral. For the ABAWD program, you can request participation or an exemption by calling, emailing, or visiting the website for additional details.

Fees: There are no fees associated with these programs.

Who can use this

  • The STEP program is available to individuals in Oregon who are receiving SNAP benefits, are at least 16 years old, and are not on TANF. The ABAWD program targets individuals aged 18-49 without children under 18 on their SNAP case and who do not qualify for an exemption or reside in an exempt county.
