About this resource

This initiative provides financial aid to families with children who are facing low income, helping them on their path to self-sufficiency. The cash assistance aims to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Participants in the TANF program may also join the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which supports them in earning a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and life skills training.

Intake Process: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting an application: - The local DHS office will contact the applicant to arrange an in-person or phone interview - Applicants may reach out to the local DHS office to schedule the interview - DHS representatives cannot leave messages on voicemails that do not include the applicant's name in the greeting.

Fees: There are no associated fees.

Who can use this

  • Eligible applicants include low-income families with children under 18, pregnant women in their ninth month, or parents under 18 who are heads of their households, residing in Oregon with very limited income and resources.

Documents you may need

  • Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
