Growing Gardens

Community Resource

Serves: Portland, Multnomah County

About this resource

This initiative provides a three-year gardening program for residents with limited financial resources. It includes garden setup, seeds and starts, compost, tools, and educational workshops. New gardeners are paired with seasoned gardeners, referred to as Garden Advisors, who offer personalized mentoring throughout the growing season. The Youth Grow program delivers practical education in school gardens, empowering children to feel included, make informed choices, care for the environment, share their cultural backgrounds, and enhance community resilience.

Intake Procedure: For more details, call or visit the website. Enrollment for gardens occurs in the fall for the upcoming spring. All spring gardens are confirmed by January, and requests made from February to July will be directed to fall installations. Growing Gardens often receives more enrollment requests than it can accommodate, particularly in spring. Clients enrolling in spring will be added to the list for the next fall or spring installation. Additionally, clients can reach out to the Home Gardens team for assistance with new participant applications.

Travel/Location: Accessible via TriMet bus 14.

Fees: No fees are required.
