About this resource

The program delivers technical support and educational resources to vaccine providers, focusing on quality enhancement. It advocates for immunizations for individuals of all ages and provides the public with information and answers regarding vaccinations, school requirements, and the exemption process. Each year, the initiative notifies parents about the state law mandating that all children enrolled in public and private schools, preschools, Head Start, and certified childcare facilities maintain current immunization records or obtain a religious exemption. If a child's immunization records indicate that they have not received the necessary vaccinations, parents or guardians will receive a notification in late January or early February. Children lacking the required immunizations will be barred from attending school or childcare starting on a specified date in February, known as Exclusion Day. It is the responsibility of parents to ensure their child's vaccinations are up to date and to provide updated documentation to the school. Oregon permits both medical and religious exemptions from vaccination requirements; for medical exemptions, consultation with a doctor or county health department is necessary, while for religious exemptions, parents must sign the relevant section of the Certificate of Immunization Status and may need to consult a doctor or view educational materials about vaccination benefits.
