About this resource

This initiative presents an alternative high school and job training opportunity for young individuals eager to achieve a GED or high school diploma and embark on a career. It offers education, skill development, structure, and guidance for the GED test. The program features academic instruction in small groups aimed at obtaining a GED or diploma, practical job training in technology or construction, recognized industry certifications, college and apprenticeship preparation, career coaching, and comprehensive support. Additionally, it provides free bus passes, chances to earn an AmeriCorps education award, small financial incentives for accomplishments, and ongoing support and placement help after graduation. Students engage in full-time schooling for about 12 months, balancing their time between classroom learning and PYB job sites. In the Technology track, they learn coding and programming while building and upgrading computers for community service. The Construction track serves as a certified pre-apprenticeship program where students construct and renovate homes for families in need. PYB assists students from both tracks in securing employment and pursuing further education or training.
