About this resource
The initiative aims to enlist volunteers who will read individually with children, nurturing their enthusiasm for reading and providing them with books to retain for their personal collections. The North Coast Team operates from SMART’s main office located in Portland, with staff frequently visiting the regions served by these teams.
Intake Procedure: Interested individuals can walk in, call, or check the website for further details. Volunteer applications can be found online.
Fees: There are no associated costs.
Who can use this
- Participants in the literacy program are children aged 5-10 (Pre-K through grade 3), while volunteers are required to complete a national criminal background check.
