This program provides financial assistance to low-income families with children, supporting their journey towards self-sufficiency. The cash aid is designed to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Recipients of TANF may have the opportunity to join the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which aids in obtaining a high school diploma or GED, along with job preparation and essential life skills.
Intake Procedure: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting the application: - The local DHS office will reach out to schedule an in-person or phone interview - Applicants can also proactively contact the local DHS office to arrange the interview - DHS staff cannot leave messages on voicemails that do not include the applicant's name in the greeting.
Fees: There are no fees associated with the application.
Who can use this
- - Families with low income that have children under 18 or pregnant women in their 9th month of pregnancy, where the parent is the head of the household - Must reside in Oregon - Must have minimal or no income and limited resources (like property, vehicles, or bank accounts). Applicants must be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens. Non-citizen parents can apply for benefits for their U.S. citizen children.
Documents you may need
- Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
