About this resource

This initiative provides financial aid to families with children who are facing low income, assisting them in their journey toward self-sufficiency. The cash assistance is designed to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Recipients of TANF may also have the opportunity to join the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which helps individuals earn a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and life skills training.

Intake Procedure: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting an application: - The local DHS office will reach out to the applicant to arrange an in-person or phone interview - Applicants can also initiate contact with the local DHS office to schedule their interview - DHS staff are unable to leave messages on voicemails that do not include the applicant's name in the greeting.

Travel/Location: The TriMet bus line 75 stops at the intersection of SW Greenburg Road and SW Cascade Avenue.

Fees: There are no fees associated with this program.

Who can use this

  • - Families with children under 18 or pregnant women in their 9th month must be the head of the household - Must reside in Oregon - Must have very low or no income and minimal resources (like property, vehicles, or bank accounts) - Applicants must be US Citizens or qualified non-citizens; parents without citizenship can apply for benefits on behalf of their US Citizen children.

Documents you may need

  • Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
