About this resource
This program manages the intake for families needing emergency shelter at multiple sites across King County. Each day, clients are assessed for available shelter openings that evening, and families will not be refused service during extreme weather conditions.
Intake Process: Interested families should call daily to be evaluated for shelter availability that night. An intake specialist will conduct a brief assessment to confirm homelessness and vulnerability. When family shelters have openings, they will reach out to callers from that day to offer them a spot. Families lacking a reliable phone number can provide a third party's contact information. If all lines are busy, callers should leave a voicemail or try again later to connect with an intake specialist.
Costs: There are no fees involved.
Who can use this
- Families in King County who are residing in places unsuitable for human habitation or escaping domestic violence are eligible, including those in cars, shelters, or motels funded by agencies. Pregnant individuals or parents with children under 18, as well as adult children still in high school, can also qualify. However, those with a Class A Felony, recent arson or methamphetamine charges, or listed on the national sex offender registry are not eligible.
