About this resource

This initiative supplies large-print and standard books, CDs, and DVDs to patrons who cannot physically visit a library. Services offered include Books by Mail, Words on Wheels (which provides complimentary delivery of library items to eligible patrons), and free home delivery. Outreach staff and volunteers assist qualified individuals in choosing library materials, with deliveries arranged on a bimonthly basis. The program also supplies books to shelters and transitional housing organizations that support those facing homelessness. Additionally, it curates, mails, and delivers books to eligible childcare providers. Mobile and Partner Libraries extend library services to Multnomah County jails, the Donald E Long Juvenile Detention Center, and the Columbia River Correctional Institution. Volunteer readers from Visiting Voices visit assisted living and Alzheimer’s facilities weekly to read to small groups of residents. Furthermore, Library Outreach serves Multnomah County jails, shelters, and organizes adult literacy programs.
