About this resource
This program provides monthly financial assistance to those who have been employed in the past or cannot work due to a disability. Payments may begin after the sixth full month of the disability. Additionally, individuals receiving SSDI might qualify for Medicare benefits.
Application Process: To apply, individuals can schedule an appointment at a local Social Security office or submit an application online. The Social Security Administration may expedite applications for those with certain rare diseases or cancer.
Cost: There are no fees associated with this program.
Who can use this
- To qualify, applicants must have a work history that includes five years of employment within the last decade and sufficient credits to be deemed 'insured,' along with a severe disability lasting at least 12 months or leading to death.
