Tacoma Area Literacy Council

This initiative offers training for volunteers eager to support adults in enhancing their reading and writing abilities, and prior teaching experience is not a prerequisite. Volunteers are paired with adult learners for personalized one-on-one tutoring.

To enroll, interested individuals should either call to sign up for training or complete the tutor registration form available on the website. Adults seeking reading assistance can contact TALC through phone or email.

There is a suggested donation of $50 for the tutor training workshop to help cover training material costs, which also includes a one-year membership in the literacy council and a six-month membership in the national council. Financial aid is available based on individual needs. While one-on-one tutoring is provided at no cost to students, they are expected to purchase their books at half price.
