About this resource
In Utah, birth parents have the option to anonymously surrender custody of their newborn without incurring legal penalties. Any hospital in Utah that operates 24 hours is recognized as a Safe Haven where newborns can be safely left. The Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) will then facilitate the immediate adoption of the child.
Who can use this
- The newborn can be left at the hospital by the mother or an authorized representative, provided the child is under 90 days old.
