About this resource

In Utah, birth parents have the option to anonymously relinquish custody of their newborn without incurring legal penalties. Designated hospitals that operate 24 hours a day serve as Safe Havens where newborns can be safely left. The Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) subsequently facilitates immediate adoption for the child.

Who can use this

  • The newborn may be surrendered at the hospital by the mother or someone authorized by her.
