About this resource
Veterans have access to various treatment options for substance use issues, which encompass both individual and group therapy, as well as medications aimed at decreasing alcohol, tobacco, and drug consumption. VA providers recognize that substance use disorders can often be chronic, necessitating long-term care. However, some veterans may find that their substance use issues can be addressed more swiftly when underlying concerns, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, pain, sleep disturbances, irritability, and relationship difficulties, are also treated.
