King County provides pet licenses for pet owners, including senior discounts that require a one-time fee valid for the pet's lifetime instead of annual renewals. Licenses for service animals are available at no cost.
Intake Procedure: You can complete the application online or visit a licensing office, such as city offices. For further details, you can call or check the website for licensing locations. During the summer and fall, canvassers in King County also sell pet licenses door-to-door.
Fees: Annual license costs are $60 for unaltered dogs/cats, $30 for altered dogs/cats, $15 for seniors/disabled individuals, and service animals are free.
Who can use this
- There are no restrictions on obtaining pet licenses. King County mandates that all dogs and cats over 8 weeks old must have a license in most areas. To qualify for the senior/disabled discount, the pet owner must be at least 65 years old or have a documented disability, and the pet must be altered. For service animals, the owner needs a documented disability and a statement confirming the animal's status as a service animal, which must also be altered. A service animal is defined as an animal trained to assist individuals with disabilities and is registered with an accredited service animal organization.
