Intake Procedure: To apply for retirement benefits, individuals can fill out an application either online or at a local office. For a replacement Social Security card, applications can also be submitted online or in-person. Users must establish an account on the Social Security website to utilize online services.
Fees: There are no fees associated with this service.
Who can use this
- Individuals aged 62 and older who have worked sufficiently to qualify for benefits. Workers can choose to retire at 62 for a reduced benefit or wait until 65 for full benefits. Certain family members may also qualify for benefits from a deceased worker, including: a widow or widower aged 60 or older (50 or older if disabled), a widow or widower of any age caring for the deceased’s child under 16 or disabled, an unmarried child under 18 or developmentally disabled, and parents aged 62 or older who relied on the deceased for at least half of their support.
