About this resource
This is a voluntary initiative designed for individuals with mental health issues who are facing legal charges, providing them with access to public mental health services aimed at decreasing recidivism. Instead of conventional sentencing, defendants are mandated to undergo treatment as ordered by the court.
Intake Process: Referrals can be made by: Judges, Defense Attorneys, Defense Social Workers, Prosecutors, Victim Advocates, Peer Specialists, Probation Mental Health Specialists, Court Clinicians, and the Program Manager. The Court Monitor evaluates the defendant's suitability for the Mental Health Court. Please inquire about the schedule for court services.
Cost: There are no fees associated with this program.
Who can use this
- To qualify, the charges must be prosecuted by King County or a local municipality, the defendant must have a major mental illness diagnosis, suitable community services must be available, and the defendant must be willing to accept treatment and supervision.
