- Individuals suspected of, charged with, or indicted for a federal crime and unable to afford legal representation are eligible, including those summoned to testify before a federal grand jury or subpoenaed in US District Court. Those approached regarding investigations by agencies such as the US Attorney’s Office, Department of Justice, Border Patrol, DEA, FBI, ICE, IRS, ATF, FEMA, or US Postal Inspector may also qualify for a Federal Public Defender.
