Offers legal representation to individuals who meet financial criteria and are engaged in particular criminal and civil cases.

Intake Process: To initiate, call for a financial assessment over the phone; no appointment is required. Cases undergo a screening process to determine financial need. Those deemed financially eligible will be assigned either a public defender or a private attorney willing to take on court-appointed cases. Clients are served on a first-come, first-served basis without the need for an appointment. If assigned to a division by a DPD screener, please wait four business days post-screening and then contact the division to learn the name of your attorney. If you are unsure of your assigned division, please reach out to DPD.

Fees: Individuals who are arrested will be informed that they can receive an attorney at public expense if they lack the means to hire one. Additional fees may apply for other services based on the client's income.
