About this resource

King County is responsible for issuing and renewing pet licenses while also managing a shelter for animals that are lost or require adoption.

Intake Process: You can call, complete an online application, or go to an animal licensing site. During the summer and fall, King County representatives also sell pet licenses door-to-door. Check the website for a list of locations and their hours.

Costs: Unaltered dogs/cats: $60. Altered dogs/cats: $30. Seniors: $15. Juvenile pets: $15. Clients with disabilities: $15. Service Animals: No charge. Replacement fee: $5.

Who can use this

In most areas of King County, pet licenses are mandatory for all dogs and cats aged 8 weeks or older. To qualify for the senior discount, residents must be at least 65 years old. The service animal discount is available for residents with documented disabilities, and a service animal is defined as an animal trained to assist individuals who are blind, hearing impaired, or otherwise disabled, and must be registered with an accredited service animal organization.
