A judge or commissioner assesses whether it is appropriate for the child to stay at home or if they should be placed in out-of-home care.
Intake Procedure: This process starts when a petition (a formal request) is submitted to the Superior or Juvenile Court. For access to the case file, reach out to the Department of Judicial Administration during business hours.
Fees: There are no fees for minors. Parents can consult with the Department of Public Defense to determine their eligibility for legal representation by calling during business hours.
Who can use this
- The petition must claim that the minor, defined as a youth under 18, is 'dependent' due to reasons such as abandonment, abuse or neglect by a responsible person, lack of a capable guardian, or involvement in trafficking.
