Seattle Housing Authority
Community Resource
About this resource
Provides an opportunity for Seattle households to obtain Housing Choice Voucher rental subsidies.
Application Process: Applicants should register online. For assistance with online applications, requests for paper applications, in-person applications, disability accommodations, or translation services, they can call or email for help.
Fees: There are no application fees. Clients are expected to pay 30-40% of their adjusted income towards monthly rent, with a minimum payment of approximately $50 required each month.
Who can use this
- When an applicant is selected from the waitlist, their total household income must not exceed 50% of the Area Median Income. Households at or below 30% of Area Median Income and those experiencing homelessness will be prioritized. Successful applicants must utilize the voucher within Seattle for one year before relocating. Applicants must be at least 18 years old or an emancipated minor. Vouchers cannot be issued to individuals with specific criminal convictions, including certain sex offenses that require lifetime registration. Having a Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) does not ensure eligibility for any rental unit, as landlords conduct their own screenings.
