Seattle Housing Authority
Community Resource
About this resource
This program provides traditional public housing options throughout Seattle, featuring designated high-rises, townhouses, and garden communities managed by the Seattle Housing Authority, aimed at assisting low-income families.
Application Process: Interested individuals can apply online through the website or download and print an application. Applicants will be placed on one or two specific waiting lists, which tend to be quite lengthy. Once on a waiting list, individuals must check in monthly to verify their ongoing need for housing through the Save my Spot initiative. This check-in can be completed via phone or online at www.savemyspot.org. If an applicant fails to check in for two consecutive months, their application will be canceled, but they may request reinstatement by calling within six months of the cancellation.
Costs: There are no application fees. Rent is set at 30% of adjusted income, with a minimum rent of approximately $50. Security deposits are required upon leasing, depending on the size of the unit, and there is no assistance available for security deposits.
Who can use this
- Priority on the waitlist is given to applicants whose income is 30% or less of the Area Median Income or those who are homeless. Households earning between 30%-80% can apply but typically do not reach the top of waiting lists due to this priority. For the Low-Income Public Housing or Seattle Senior Housing Program, U.S. citizenship is not required at the application stage, but at least one household member must be a U.S. citizen or have eligible immigration status at move-in. Full assistance is available for households with all members having verified eligible immigration status, while pro-rated assistance is offered for those with at least one eligible member.
